CBC Fremantle gathered this morning to celebrate excellence with special awards commending the Class of 2019 for their outstanding results and to recognise the newest members of the College's Academic Excellence Programme.
The morning started early for last year's graduates, with the smell of bacon and egg burgers drawing them back to school for the traditional Year 13 breakfast.
The Cloisters was buzzing with an army of Year 11 and 12 leaders preparing the repast as a gesture of thanks to their older peers.
Last year's leaders had plenty of time to catch up with mates, share their plans with teachers and reflect on their time at the College as they prepare to take the next step in their journey.
Principal Domenic Burgio reminded the group that CBC will always be home and that they are welcome to return at any time in the future.
He also reminded the graduates of the special bond of brotherhood that they share as CBC Fremantle gentlemen, which they will carry for the rest of their lives.
After breakfast, the gentlemen were invited to return to their old mentors, shocking more than a few teachers with how quickly their hair had grown in the short time since Graduation.
Seven members of the Class of 2019 were then invited to the College's assembly, where they were inducted into CBC's 95 Academic Club in recognition of achieving an ATAR above 95 – placing them within the top 5% of the state's students.
A number of boys were also presented with Certificates of Distinction, which are awarded by the School Curriculum and Standards Authority to some of the state's highest performing students.
In light of the Class of 2019's achievements, which are among the best the College has seen in recent years, Mr Burgio encouraged current students to be inspired by the results of the most recent graduates.
"I recommend just keep looking into your heart and asking yourself: am I doing the best I can?" he said.
President of the Old Boys' Association, Terry Iannello, then presented Joshua Jackson with the Association's annual award to the student who achieves the highest ATAR of their cohort.
Academic prefect, Ben Leavy, alongside Academic Excellence Programme coordinator, Ms Marilyn Schmidt, also welcomed almost 100 students into the AEP for 2020.
As members of the programme, students are provided with opportunities to extend their learning beyond the classroom, including meeting with industry experts and working on special team-based projects.
The College firmly believes in the value of recognising excellence and continuing to inspire current students to achieve their best in every area of life.
