Community honours Year 9

The Rite Journey programme for 2019 culminated in a poignant ceremony at Point Walter this week, with the Year 9 students being symbolically returned to their parents by their Rite Journey teachers.

At the beginning of the year, the boys are called on their journey to becoming an adult, and handed over to their teachers for the year as they learn skills in positive masculinity to assist them on their journey to manhood.

Throughout the year, The Rite Journey programme encourages boys to discuss issues that face male adolescents, and offers appropriate challenges to assist boys to become confident and good young men.

For a successful and positive transition from child psychology to healthy adult psychology, it is vital for the developing young men to have their achievements and self-growth acknowledged and honoured by their community, and The Homecoming ceremony plays a major role in the process.

The students were congratulated by their TRJ teachers and presented with a compendium to help them organise their certificates and papers as they progress towards becoming tomorrow's gentlemen. Inside the folder was also the letter written in their own hand in Year 7, prior to commencing at the College, and their simple words served to draw attention to their transition from boy to man.

The boys also received a badge designed by Year 9 student, Jasper Jeffery, symbolising their unique bond as a cohort during their journey at CBC.

The boys and their families then wandered along the foreshore to attend the final Liturgy, and parents selected a special moment to present a letter of love and support to their young man and share a quiet reflection.

Finally, the group gathered under the Moreton Bay Figs with the Swan River shining in the background and dusk settling over the city skyline, and the gentle setting was a further reminder of the connection the College and its families have with the local landmarks of the Fremantle area.
