Teaching and Learning update - Sunday 25 April 2021

Dear Families of CBC Fremantle

Please find below information that will help you and your son prepare for remote learning should an announcement be made by the Western Australian Government to extend the current lockdown.

If this is the case, and students need to collect any of the materials listed below from school, please contact either Ms Knox (0499 020 226) or Mr Burgio (0400 880 861) to book a time. There will be a window for collecting learning materials between 3.30pm and 5.30pm on Monday 26 April.

If you are going to be on-site, please adhere to COVID-19 safety protocols.

CBC Fremantle Remote Teaching and Learning

The following arrangements ensure continuity of our teaching and learning programmes in the event of remote learning.

  • Laptop and charger.
  • Any other essential equipment such as textbooks etc.
  • Any approved CBC school uniform (to be worn during on-line lessons).

Home learning environment

In accordance with best-practice in Child Safety Online Learning, it is important that your son sets up a suitable and safe learning environment at home.  Below are the College commitments that we have of his learning environment:

  • Laptop is to be set up on a suitable desk or table with access to the internet
  • Students are to be dressed in their school uniform (sports or formal)
  • Microsoft Teams background should be set to “blur my background”
  • Students are not permitted to screen shot, record or copy any live tutorials/meetings
  • All College expectations regarding behaviour and conduct in the physical environment, also apply to the online environment – be respectful, courteous and considerate.
  • Microsoft Teams is to be used for school-related communication only.

What will remote learning look like?

Staff are prepared and ready for Remote Learning.

CBC Fremantle will continue to use SEQTA as the main platform to implement our Remote Learning Plan.  Each lesson will be conducted via SEQTA by providing clear instructions and learning activities.  Staff may choose to use other technology to assist the teaching and learning programme.  Other technologies may include Microsoft Teams, Education Perfect, Lexia, Mathletics, Kahoot etc.

Work or instructions will be provided on SEQTA by 8.00am each day.  Each lesson must be accessed by your son during the normal scheduled time. For example, Period 1 is 9.00am – 9.55am, Period 2 is 9.55am-10.50am etc. All theory classes will continue with Remote Learning.  Practical aspects of subjects will not be able to be covered at this time and we will endeavour, where possible, to deliver practical components when face to face learning programmes resume.

Each SEQTA lesson will provide your son with approximately 45-55 minutes of work.  This will be a combination of live tutorials and completing assigned learning activities.

Students with Individual Education Plans

Students with Individual Education Plans, and those who are supported by the Academic Care Team, will be provided with adjusted lessons.  These will be communicated via Academic Care SEQTA lessons.

Pastoral Care

Live Mentor classes will be conducted at least three times per week at 8.45am. If any students are experiencing difficulties, students or parents can contact their Head of House or any other member of the Pastoral Board for support at any time.

Live tutorials and meetings

All staff will provide live tutorials or meetings throughout the week.  Wherever possible, this should include the first lesson of each week. These meeting times will be communicated by the teacher on SEQTA.  Below is a table of how many live tutorials/meetings will be held each week.

  • provide feedback, and

Assessments or work to be submitted

Depending on the Remote Learning timeframe, our staff may ask your son to complete and submit specific work in accordance with the requirements set out by CBC Fremantle and School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA).

Students will need to adhere to these requirements and submit the work by the due date where applicable.  These pieces of work will be marked and feedback will be provided to your son. CBC Fremantle may use these results to assist in the calculation of your son’s final academic results for his subjects or courses. Please communicate this expectation to your son.

Warmest regards

Jenny Knox
